One Tribe Reggaedelic Performance

One Tribe Performs Live at Terressentials
Friday, August 28, 2015, 6pm-9pm
Terressentials, 100 East Patrick Street, Downtown Frederick, MD

Start your weekend off with a fresh "reggaedelic" experience from One Tribe. Enjoy the positive connection and uplifting, deep message this reggae dub band infuses into their lively, culturally diverse, original music.

One Tribe Logo

According to the band's Facebook page, "One Tribe is the next layer in the positive dub force field. With far out psychedelia over traditional riddims, two percussionists, and two vocalists blending harmonies, we bring a lively beat and a message of conscious awakening. With a diverse group of members from all over the planet One Tribe represents the worldwide unity that comes alive when listening to the powerful message of their songs. With influences from Marley to Frusciante, from King Tubby to Mars Volta, One Tribe has a wide range of influences, but a focused and passionate vision. With an effort towards making the best reggaedelic music and infusing world music influences in our sound we are looking to push the limits of dub and bridge the gap between reggae music and other cultural sounds; most importantly, we live to play and play to move the crowd with positive energy."

Birds and Arrows: Coyotes!

Birds and Arrows—Coyotes: So Smooth, So Original, So beautiful!

It's official. I've now listened to Coyotes by Birds and Arrows dozens of times. It's very possible that I've heard and sung along with all of the songs on the cd more times than Birds and Arrows has sung them!

And so now I can enthusiastically share with you that the talented Andrea and Pete Connolly are not just accomplished musicians and artists, they are also masterful chefs creating music so divine and so full of vibrant flavors that it can only be compared to the finest...organic gourmet chocolate. Coyotes is chocolatey musical art that is rich, mellow, bittersweet and complex.

There is no doubt that Andrea's vocals impart a delicious creamy texture to the Coyotes cd, however her hub, Pete, adds a most complementary layer of caramelly backing vocals and solos to the blend. The couple's poetry, masquerading as song lyrics, is hauntingly familiar – touching places in your heart that you forgot were there. Adding to the warm vocals and dreamy lyrics is an elegant, becalming bouquet of soul-soothing instrumentation and harmonies – and liberally dusted with a sprinkling of gifts from other highly talented musicians and their instruments. Birds and Arrows' chocolate-inspired music is a true delicacy infused with surprising finishing touches of warm, woody and spicy strings, a dusting of flowery theremin and a subtle aromatic hint of tranquil pedal steel (contributed by Dave Hadley).

Without a doubt, the Birds and Arrows' Coyotes cd is a beautiful work of art that reflects a love we don't always get to feel – love for family, friends, animals and nature. It is a celebration of life and spirit and is one of the most inspirational and satisfying, new musical endeavors that I've heard in years.

Don't delay, listen and buy their CD today.

December's Performances

On December 14th Jonah Knight brought an interesting, somewhat disturbing and at the same time fun slant to the normal holiday standards of Christmas music. He offered a unique style with wonderful guitar picking which made for a “warm” chill on an even chillier evening.

Past Deux performed on the sidewalk at Terressentials on the warm night of December 21st, but their energy would have warmed even the coldest night. They played spirited renditions of 50's and 60's tunes that had people dancing in the streets. As a nod to the season, they performed a sing along of Silent Night and had many “carolers” joining in! Past Deux's music was a joy to hear and a great addition to our Side Roads Sound Project.

Thanks guys for making our Side Roads Side Project a success this holiday season!

A big thanks to Mary Cottone of Good Gracious Gardens (and of Terressentials!) who posted this great video featuring Pretty Gritty and special guest the talented Dave Hadley! Enjoy!

About the Musicians:

Johnny Rushmore was the lead guitarist for the Power Trio from Hell back from 1988 until 1994 on Warner/Reprise records. Johnny also recorded for Freddie Mercury of Queen on his solo album The Great Pretender - Hollywood records 1993. Then he toured through Scandinavia and the UK with former members of Roger Daltrey band in 1995-96 (The Who) and toured with metal bands Prong and Mind Funk. He then toured with Blues and Boogie Woogie Artist Daryl Davis as well as fronted his own heavy powerhouse virtuoso guitar blues band (Johnny Rushmore) that toured on the East Coast. Check out his smokin' blues CD entitled Boogie Man! That CD along with a visit from Michael Lang (promoter) to a showcased VA jam got Johnny on the emerging artist stage at Woodstock '99. Johnny Rushmore started Rushmore Custom Guitars in 2007 and makes amazing one-of-a-kind custom electric guitars and a new invention/innovation – each guitar is made all from one piece of wood. He hand picks the wood he uses from trees in the Pennsylvanian Hills, then hand carves these unique and individual masterpieces. Some of the wood he uses includes walnut, ash, and maple. He also uses exotic woods like Brazilian mahogany and other Latin American and African woods with the highest standards of guitar craftsmanship hardware, pickups and high-end audio components and are considered as some of the finest handmade guitars in the world. Johnny Rushmore joined the prestigious Richard Underwood of the Johnson Mountain Boys legendary bluegrass band and received an endorsement from Martin Guitars in Nazareth Pennsylvania in 2008 and continues to play and perform all around in the MD, VA, DC, Pennsylvania New York East Coast region of the US .

Side Roads Sounds Project Picture Contest

We need photographs of Frederick!

We want to use a photo taken by YOU for our Side Roads Sounds Project web page:

As you can see the page looks pretty boring right now. We want to see interesting landscape or cityscape photos taken around Frederick County – any place is game! Photos that include humans will also require a model release.

If you look at the format of the page, the center of the photo will be covered, so make sure the sides of the photo are interesting!

We like artistic photos, so feel free to take a dramatic night-shot in the rain

How to submit your photo:

1. Go to the Terressentials Facebook Page
2. Go to the Side Roads Sounds Project Picture Contest event page.
3. Post your photo on the event page wall
4. Say where you took the photo!

BUT

Make sure you keep a high resolution copy of the image.

Terressentials will chose our favorite picture and notify the winners.

There will be three winners:

Grace Dan & The Fam performance at Terressentials was a great success!

If you missed out on Grace Dan & The Fam's performance in front of our East Patrick Street store in the evening on Saturday, July 20th, you missed a great show! Grace sang beautifully, as her brother, Dan, and father, Joe, accompanied her on percussion and guitar (respectively). She sang covers of crowd favorites including “I'm Yours” by Jason Mraz, “Little Lion Man” by Mumford & Sons, and “Little Talks” by Of Monsters and Men. It was quite nice to see the little crowd that gathered around the Westminster family as they shared their love of music with the East Patrick Street community and those who were just passing by. A Downtown Frederick Partnership employee even stopped by to take some great pictures!

This was just the first of the Side Roads Sounds Project performances, though. If you want to learn more about the Side Roads Sounds Project, a Terressentials initiative to bring more vibrancy and music to the “side roads” of both downtown Frederick City and Frederick County, check out this post from our Terressentials Side Roads Sounds Project.
